According to a study, coffee consumption can reduce the risk of depression. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health report, people who drank four or more cups of coffee per day had a 20 percent lower risk of experiencing depression. While those who consumed 2-3 cups of coffee a day had 15 percent lower risk.

There is also some evidence that coffee protects men from depression. Caffeine in coffee can increase your energy and mood even in the short term. The Harvard researchers also saw a similar decrease in depression in people who consume caffeinated soft drinks.
